Kathryn
Awde
- President and Certified Laser Therapist
Kathryn
discovered the benefits of Low Intensity Laser Therapy for pain
relief after she received treatment for a severe whiplash injury
sustained in 1991. As a result of her personal success she
brought the Bioflex™ laser system to London in an effort to help
people in a painless, effective and low cost manner.
After graduating from the
University of Western Ontario in 1973 with a B.A. in Computer
Science, Kathryn worked in several offices, including the
University of Western Ontario Computer Science Department, 3M
and Beaver Lumber (head office). Kathryn has over 20 years
experience working as a Business Manager with a London Family
Physician.
Dr.
Murray Awde
M.D.,
L.M.C.C., C.C.F.P., F.C.F.P., C.B., C.L.T - Medical Director
Dr. Murray Awde is the
Medical Director to the Laser Approach Inc. He is Adjunct
Professor of Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine,
University of Western Ontario and is a McMaster University post
graduate facilitator coordinating post graduate education in
Southwestern Ontario.
Dr. Awde is a family doctor
who has practiced medicine in London for over thirty years. He is
Past President of the London and District Academy of Medicine.
He was a Coroner for the province of Ontario for fifteen years.
As medical director to a large physiotherapy centre in London,
Dr. Awde is knowledgeable in all aspects of acute and chronic
musculoskeletal problems.
Dr. Awde has done extensive
research in osteoarthritis and published an article on arthritis
in December 2000 that is used to teach other physicians.
Dr. Awde is trained for
laser pain management and laser for cosmetic enhancements. He
is one of a very few physicians in Canada with significant laser
experience throughout all spectrums of light. He will use these
clinical skills and experience when interacting with the staff
at The Laser Approach Inc.
Karen
Hobden - B.Sc. RPT, Certified Laser Therapist
Reiki master/teacher, Recognized Therapeutic Touch Teacher,
Tutor for Dyslexic Children, First Aid Instructor
Karen has a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology and
Physics from Laurentian University. Being interested in
alternative therapies Karen studied Reiki and Therapeutic Touch.
She has been practicing and teaching these modalities for the
past 10 years.
Karen has served on the board for the Therapeutic Touch Network
of Ontario in the teacher liaison position. In her spare time
she volunteers with the Scottish Rite Foundation Learning Centre
as a tutor for dyslexic children.
Chris Semenuk - Registered Massage Therapist,
Certified Laser Therapist
Chris has been successfully practicing Massage
Therapy since graduating from the D’Arcy Lane School of massage therapy in
2000. After graduating he was given a teaching position at the school and
continues to aid in moulding future RMT’s to this day. In addition to
teaching, Chris is the Assistant Coach and team Massage Therapist to the
Western Mustangs Men’s & Women’s cross country and track & field teams.
Chris is an accomplished athlete, winning the
gold medal at the 1996 Canadian Championships in the 400m sprint. Because
of his experience with sports he knows what it is like to also be a massage
patient in need.
Giving back to the community Chris has
volunteered his time and services to such events as; Canada Summer Games,
Labatt 24-hour Relay, Participation House, AIDS Walk and Heart & Stroke.
Petr Macel - Registered Massage Therapist,
Certified Laser Therapist
Petr
first discovered the benefits of massage after a sports injury
in 1985. He was so impressed with the results that he started
studying massage at the local rehabilitation center. After
moving to Canada Petr attended the D’Arcy Lane School of Massage
Therapy to train as a Registered Massage Therapist. After
graduation in 1995 he and his wife moved to South Carolina, USA.
In all, Petr Macel, Registered Massage Therapist, completed over
3000 hours of massage training in Canada, Europe and the United
States.
Petr
comes to The Laser Approach as a 14 year veteran with experience
in assisting both physicians and chiropractors in patient care.
He enjoys working with both medical and holistic therapists and
practitioners, as each brings new elements into treatment and
care. With his many years of practicing massage, myofascial
release, craniosacral therapy and other modalities, Petr
encourages his clients to care for their bodies on an individual
basis best suited to their needs.
Petr has
enjoyed meeting and training with many excellent doctors,
counselors, body workers, yoga and movement teachers believing
that with each encounter he has deepened his understanding of
the human body and mind. He hopes to continue learning new
techniques and modalities that can be utilized into his
practice.
